Is it hard? Is it easy? / 1960
I’ve always liked this children’s book because of its simplicity. Black and brown for the color, photo line art and silhouettes for the graphics and Baskerville Old Style for the type. Len Gittleman’s photos work perfectly when reduced to a straightforward graphic style. The different size images and blocks of color work so well throughout the thirty-six pages, from the step-and-repeat endpapers to the clever imprint using small graphics of the kids. A forgotten masterpiece from 1960.
Delightful book!
