The
high-tech world of the mid-thirties according to Churchman cigarettes. Forty-eight larger (68 by 53 mm) than normal
size cards that covered a fascinating range of mechanical and electrical
developments mixed in with some that had been around for years: the Queen Mary
going into the Southampton graving dock.
Fortunately not many cards were devoted to weird transport (the
Dynasphere) which could provide a set of its own. Instead the subjects chosen reflected more of
the biggest or the strongest in the industrial world.
Mitchell’s cigarettes issued a set of fifty black
and white cards in 1936 called the World of Tomorrow which had looked into the
future based on some of the ideas in the Modern wonders set.
