EverGreen recycled papers / Simpson Paper Company / 1990

Simpson did their bit for the environment by producing the EverGreen line, half of which was recycled waste paper. To tie in with the format what better than a sample book that used the creative output of naturalists on thirteen different grades.
The choice of naturalist is rather elastic I thought, from Charles Lindbergh’s wife Anne to Igor Stravinsky to designer/illustrator Dugald Stermer but they all had a love of the outdoors which comes across in this beautifully designed promotional book.

Because the papers are various earthy tones the printing techniques varied from letterpress and litho using four color, black duotones, fluorescent inks (Johnny Appleseed) metallic inks, foil stamping and several matched colors. The design was by Kit Hinrichs at Pentagram
