Illustrations from past decades / part 5 / David Lockhart
I always liked David Lockhart’s work because I had an Esso calendar from the mid-fifties which I kept for years (the twelve illustrations are above) so it's a bit of nostalgia. There’s nothing special about his painting technique but he had a knack of creating a simple scene which anyone could immediately understand. I think most of his work below was calendar art but I believe he illustrated several books and worked on commissions for national advertisers.
Reminds me of Norman Rockwell's Sat Eve Post covers...similar themes, so enjoyable
